The Knowledge of Christ

The words of Paul in Philippians 3 says

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him.

I find myself asking what is this knowledge that Paul is talking about? This knowledge that can cause us to be found in His Presence and also in His Righteousness (v9).

What if Knowledge is an important key? Without knowledge, we would be believing in all sorts of made up imaginations. Let’s call this False Knowledge. With True Knowledge we would really know for sure.

Now WHY do we need to know for sure? I think it’s because knowledge brings forth faith. No matter if it’s false knowledge or true knowledge, it will bring forth faith. We practice faith everyday. Even in the simple things. We have faith that the chair we sit in will support our weight. We believe that the amount of salt we add into our soup adds the right amount of saltiness we want. But we also make mistakes of having faith on a pen that is out of ink, so we only brought one pen to class. Or leaving the powerbank at home because we remember (falsely) that we charged our phone at home.

Why do we need true knowledge? Because it affects our faith which affects our actions. The value of knowing Christ Jesus that surpasses every other knowledge. I have yet to achieve this level of value and regard to the knowledge of Christ Jesus. But I believe I will. Let’s press on into God’s will and words. Keep studying His word, keep looking to Him for perspective and leadership, and keep doing everything you can for His glory. And may He Grace you with revelation upon revelation.

Truth

Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
But happy is he who keeps the law.

If there was only one reason to teach the Word of God. This would be it. To reveal the truth. And that people see that there is a way to obtain real fulfilling joy. Without the truth, the world is stumbling into chaos.

Sejahtera Allah Yang Melebihi Pengertian Manusia

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Filipi 4:6-7 (AVB)  Jangan bimbangkan apa pun.

John 2:1-11 (NLT)

The Wedding at Cana

The next day[a] there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”

“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”

But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.[b] Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”

11 This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Answer the following questions:

  1. Who is in the passage?

Mother, Jesus, Disciples, Servants, MC, bridegroom

  1. What is happening?

Wedding dinner? They ran out of wine but it was probably not time to go home yet. Mary told Jesus, waiting for a miracle? He did provide around thirty gallons of wine better than the previous wine.

  1. Where did it happened?

The village of Cana in Galilee.

  1. When was it?

After a Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist. After John the Baptist started to announce about Jesus. After Jesus got a few followers. Before any of his travels. Before he has gathered all his disciples. Before people really knew about the things that really made him famous.

  1. Why ?

Why did Mary tell Jesus the wine was finished? Since it really wasn’t any of their business.
What did Jesus mean by not his time?

Why did Jesus do the miracle anyway even though it was not His time? Is he talking about something else?

Does it mean something that the wine was in the Jewish ceremonial washing jars? Isn’t it dirty?

  1. Wherefore?
  • Mary really had faith in Jesus to be a GOD. So special. She already anticipated it since before he is born because of the message from angel Gabriel. We can learn from her faith. To believe not because she has seen, but believe in the future. Based on what he CAN do, not what He HAS done.
  • The servants had to have faith. Whether they are jewish or not, they sure know the customs and that that is ceremonial jar. Taking a drink for their master is risky. If it’s just dirty water, like it is, they may lose their jobs. Or maybe their life.
  • Jesus obeyed his mom. She is just human. And he already explain to her why she is probably wrong for asking him to do it. But he still do it.
